Today's portraits of women are for me the embodiment of the Valkyries of yesteryear
Asserting themselves in a sexist world is a challenge but a reality that they defend against all odds
Yes. And what is striking is that their fight is not a decorative myth.
The Valkyries of yesteryear chose the dead worthy of Valhalla; those of today choose, every day, to stand in a world that often prefers to see them bend. The parallel is just because it is sober: no winged helmets required, only a quiet persistence, sometimes exhausting, always courageous.
Asserting oneself in a macho world is not a heroic posture in the epic sense, it is a daily resistance. It is housed in tiny decisions, polite but firm refusals, continuity despite wear and tear. Where the myth spoke of martial force, reality speaks of constancy, lucidity, and a social intelligence sharpened like a discreet blade.
What is fascinating is that these women do not abolish vulnerability: they integrate it. The modern Valkyrie does not deny injuries, it advances with them. This is perhaps where the myth becomes more true than the myth itself: power is no longer in domination, but in the ability not to be defined by it.
The old stories were used to explain the world. The ones you mention show how he changes.
